Despite the dip in new connections, all customer categories recorded higher electricity consumption, reaching their highest levels to date.

Between July 2024 and June 2025, a total of 395,490 new customers were connected to Kenya’s national power grid, bringing the number of grid-linked users to 10,045,775.

This represents a decline from the previous year’s 517,666 new connections, signalling a slowdown in electricity access expansion.

Electricity users are categorised into several key groups: large commercial and industrial, small commercial, domestic, street lighting, and electric mobility consumers.
